Yellowstone: What to Know Before You Go
Yellowstone National Park spans parts of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Its geothermal features, wildlife and wide-open scenery make it a remarkable destination, but distances and seasonal conditions mean advance planning matters.
Check roads and seasonal access
Some park roads and facilities operate seasonally, and weather can change quickly. Check current road status and alerts before you travel, and allow extra time between areas.
Respect wildlife and thermal areas
Stay on designated boardwalks and trails around thermal features. Keep a safe distance from all wildlife, follow park rules and never feed animals.
Plan your daily route
The park is large, so group nearby sights together and avoid trying to cover every highlight in one day. Carry water, food, layers and a map or offline navigation option.
